Few NFL players have lived in the headlines this year the way the Rams receiver has. If you have wondered why is ‘puka nacua’ trending, the answer is a blend of elite production, a groin problem that cost him two games, and an off-field legal matter the league is still reviewing. On Monday night, October 12, he set a career high with 17 catches in an overtime loss to the Bills, and no punishment has been announced.
This guide gathers the verified details in one place: background, college path, NFL numbers, contract talks, controversies and fantasy value.

Real Name, Age, Height and Jersey Number
Makea Puka Nacua was born on May 29, 2001, in Las Vegas and grew up in Provo, Utah. The puka nacua real name question comes up because “Puka” is a nickname. It is a Samoan word meaning fat and chubby, a label he picked up as a baby. Some fans flip the order and search nacua puka, but Nacua is the family name.
Puka Nacua age is 26, since he turned 26 in May. Puka Nacua height is listed at 6 ft 2 in, and puka nacua height and weight figures differ slightly by source, with weight reported between 205 and 216 pounds. At his pre-draft testing, his puka nacua 40 time was 4.57 seconds, and he added a 33-inch vertical jump.
The puka nacua number is 12. He moved from 17 to his college digits in March 2025, so any puka nacua jersey bought in the past year should carry a 12.
Ethnicity, Nationality and Faith
Readers often ask what nationality is puka nacua. He is American, born in Nevada. On heritage, profiles describe his mother as Samoan and German and his late father as Hawaiian and Portuguese. That settles the puka nacua ethnicity and puka nacua nationality searches in one line. It also answers a common question: is puka nacua hawaiian? Partly, through his father’s side.
People who type puka nacua race or what race is puka nacua are asking about the same Polynesian and European mix, and no source reviewed uses a single label. Likewise, puka nacua jewish searches mostly trace back to the gesture controversy covered below, and none of the profile reporting describes him as Jewish.
Family: Parents, Brothers and a Football Legacy
The puka nacua parents are Penina and Lionel Nacua. Lionel died from complications of diabetes when Puka was 11, and Penina has been the anchor of a large football family since.
- Mother: Penina Nacua, who kept the household together after her husband’s death.
- Father: Lionel Nacua, widely credited with starting his sons on football.
- Brothers: A puka nacua brother search leads to older siblings Kai, a safety, and Samson, a receiver, both with the UFL’s Michigan Panthers. Samson transferred to BYU at the same time Puka did, so the pair shared the puka nacua college seasons in Provo.
- Cousin: Marist Liufau, a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.
High School Records at Orem
At Orem High School in Utah, Nacua finished with 260 catches, 5,226 yards and 58 touchdowns, all state records. The puka nacua high school résumé also includes the 2018 Polynesian High School Football Player of the Year award. He signed with Washington as a four-star recruit.
Puka Nacua College Path: Washington and BYU
Puka Nacua college life began at Washington in 2019. A broken foot ended his freshman year after seven catches for 168 yards and two scores. He caught nine passes for 151 yards in the shortened 2020 season, then entered the transfer portal.
The move to BYU, made alongside his brother, is the puka nacua byu chapter. In 2021 he caught 43 passes for 805 yards and six touchdowns, then followed with 48 for 625 and five scores in 2022. Reports from that year highlight a 14-catch, 157-yard game against Boise State, capped by the game-winning touchdown with 32 seconds left.
| Season | School | Catches | Yards | TD |
| 2019 | Washington | 7 | 168 | 2 |
| 2020 | Washington | 9 | 151 | 1 |
| 2021 | BYU | 43 | 805 | 6 |
| 2022 | BYU | 48 | 625 | 5 |
| Total | 107 | 1,749 | 14 |
Those totals are the full puka nacua college stats line. He also ran 39 times for 357 yards and five touchdowns at BYU, an early sign of the gadget-play role he still fills for the Rams. Puka Nacua college production was strong, but nobody projected a first-round pick.
Draft Day: When Was Puka Nacua Drafted?
The Rams selected him in the fifth round, 177th overall, in April 2023, making him the 20th receiver taken. The puka nacua draft slot now reads as one of the best late-round steals in recent memory. He signed a four-year rookie deal worth about $4.08 million that June.
NFL Career and Puka Nacua Stats by Season
As a rookie in 2023, Nacua caught 105 passes for 1,486 yards, breaking the previous rookie records for receptions and receiving yards. His 15 catches against the 49ers set a single-game rookie mark. Few scouts saw that coming, because his puka nacua college numbers looked solid rather than special.
A knee issue and a PCL sprain limited him to 11 games in 2024, though he still reached 990 yards. In 2025 he led the league with 129 catches, finished second with 1,715 yards, earned unanimous first-team All-Pro honors and won PFF’s offensive player of the year award. He also reached 300 career receptions in 43 games, the fastest in NFL history.
| Season | Games | Catches | Yards | Receiving TD |
| 2023 | 17 | 105 | 1,486 | 6 |
| 2024 | 11 | 79 | 990 | 3 |
| 2025 | 16 | 129 | 1,715 | 10 |
| 2026* | 3 | 31 | 337 | 1 |
| Career* | 47 | 344 | 4,528 | 20 |
*Totals run through Week 5. He also has three career rushing touchdowns.
Puka Nacua stats hold up in the playoffs too, with 44 catches for 654 yards and three touchdowns in six career postseason games. The puka nacua catch fans replay most is a 2024 grab against San Francisco that many compared to David Tyree’s famous helmet catch. Fellow players ranked him seventh on the NFL Top 100 for 2026.
Playing Style and Role in the Rams Offense
Nacua’s game is built on precise route running and efficiency every time he is targeted. Rotoworld’s analysts call him one of the best per-route receivers in the NFL, and the early 2026 numbers fit. Through Week 4, SumerSports had him at a 27.3 percent target share and 2.88 yards per route run.
The Rams have thrown more than 50 passes in three straight games, which feeds that volume. Coordinator Nate Scheelhaase leans on Stafford’s arm, and Nacua gets the ball on short throws, deep shots and the occasional end-around, like the one that produced his Week 4 rushing score. After the Eagles win, Stafford said Nacua played like himself in his return. Davante Adams, the other major target, has settled in as the red-zone complement.

Rams Puka Nacua Week 5 Recap: 17 Catches in Overtime
Matthew Stafford threw 54 passes, 24 of them toward Nacua, who finished with a personal-best 17 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown, plus nine rushing yards on two carries. Most of his work came on short routes, which fits a groin that is still on the practice report. He missed a 51-yard touchdown by inches on the final play of the first half.
Buffalo won in overtime after a blocked Rams field goal attempt gave the Bills new life. Those puka nacua stats lifted his career total to 344 catches. The Rams fall to 2-3 and host the Cardinals in Week 6.
Puka Nacua Injury Update: Groin, Hip and “Pre-Hernia”
The first puka nacua injury concern surfaced in training camp, when psoas soreness limited him at times. By early September, reports said he was progressing well. Then came Melbourne. The opener itself went fine, with five catches for 74 yards and a 41-yard reception that bounced off 49ers defenders, and the puka nacua stats from that game gave no hint of trouble. The second puka nacua injury was a groin problem, officially listed as a hip issue, and coach Sean McVay said it was separate from the psoas.
Nacua sat out Weeks 2 and 3. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that surgery was “not entirely off the table,” even though the team did not think it was needed. He returned in Week 4 after a full Friday practice. Schefter said the Rams would not limit his workload, though Tom Pelissero heard of a stricter snap count.
During that game, FOX’s Erin Andrews reported he was dealing with a “pre-hernia.”
Is puka nacua injured right now? He is producing at a high level, but the groin still appears on practice reports, and a doctor quoted by Yahoo warned of a higher re-injury risk before the Eagles game. Every puka nacua injury report this week deserves a close read.
Status Check: Is He Playing?
The latest puka nacua news is a good one: he is back to a full workload. Is puka nacua playing today? No, because there are no games on a Tuesday. Is puka nacua playing tonight? Same answer, as the Rams are off after Monday’s overtime loss. That also means there are no puka nacua receiving yards today to report. His latest line was Monday’s 138.
The real question is Sunday. Will puka nacua play against Arizona in Week 6? Nothing reported suggests he is out, but the final puka nacua injury designation on Friday will decide it. His official puka nacua status stays unconfirmed until then. For a simple answer, is puka nacua playing in Week 6? Probably, with the usual groin caveat.
Contract, Salary and Net Worth
The puka nacua contract is still the four-year rookie deal he signed in June 2023. Its value is about $4.08 million, a tiny sum for one of the league’s most productive receivers. Reports put the puka nacua salary for 2026 near $5.7 million once a performance escalator is added to a $1.145 million base.
No puka nacua contract extension has been signed. He hired WIN Sports Group, the agency behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s four-year, $168 million deal in Seattle. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that no extension should be expected before the season, and general manager Les Snead declined to discuss talks in August. In July, Nacua said staying with the Rams is “the plan.” Reporting ties the delay to more than money: Rapoport described the situation as personal to Nacua, and the club appears to want clarity on the off-field review first.
| Item | Figure |
| Puka Nacua Rams rookie deal | 4 years, about $4.08 million |
| 2026 base salary | $1.145 million |
| 2026 total with incentive | About $5.7 million |
| Projected 2027 franchise tag | About $31.5 million |
| Projected extension range | 43–50 million per year |
On endorsements, he signed a multi-year deal with Jordan Brand in April 2024 and has partnerships with Little Caesars and Gatorade. A December 2025 Experian campaign paired him with 49ers linebacker Fred Warner. Published estimates of puka nacua net worth sit near $3.7 million, but that figure is unverified. His reported career earnings through 2025 were about $2.9 million before endorsements.
Puka Nacua Controversy: A Timeline of Off-Field Issues
Puka Nacua’s on-field year has been shadowed by several off-field stories. This table keeps the order straight.

What Did Puka Nacua Do on the Adin Ross Stream?
In mid-December 2025, Nacua joined streamer Adin Ross online. Ross pushed him to use an antisemitic caricature as a touchdown routine, and Nacua agreed on camera. The clip spread within hours, and the puka nacua antisemitic touchdown celebration became a national story.
Before the stream, Nacua had asked to bring Ross into the practice facility, and coach Sean McVay said no. That made the puka nacua adin ross appearance, and the adin ross puka nacua link that followed in coverage, awkward for the team.
What Gesture Did Puka Nacua Make?
The puka nacua gesture drew a fast condemnation from the NFL, which said it opposes all forms of discrimination. The league left any discipline to the Rams as a club matter. The puka nacua hand gesture is a long-running antisemitic caricature. Reports say it never appeared in a game, and the planned puka nacua dance never materialized. No puka nacua celebration of that kind has been seen on the field.
What did puka nacua say after the backlash? On December 18 he posted an Instagram statement saying he had no idea the act was antisemitic and does not stand for racism, bigotry or hate. Some outlets called it a puka nacua antisemitic dance scandal. Nacua has apologized for the puka nacua antisemitic gesture, and the league has not disciplined him for it.
Comments About Officials and Other Backlash
The puka nacua comments about referees came on the same stream. He suggested officials call penalties to get on television, and the NFL fined him $25,000. Days later, a second stream with Ross and N3on drew criticism after he said concussions are all in your head.
He also livestreamed from the Rams locker room after a December win, despite teammates telling him to stop. The puka nacua celebration controversy ended with an apology, yet it was only one of several December stories.
Lawsuit and Bite Allegation
On March 25, 2026, a Los Angeles-area woman filed a civil lawsuit claiming gender violence, assault, battery and negligence. She says Nacua made an unprovoked antisemitic comment at a New Year’s Eve dinner and later bit her shoulder. A puka nacua bite mark sits at the center of the claim, and the suit also accuses him of biting a friend’s thumb.
Nacua denies the allegations in the strongest terms, and his attorney said a defamation suit would follow. Yahoo has reported that the attorney acknowledged a puka nacua bite occurred but called it consensual horseplay. He denies making the puka nacua antisemitic remark alleged in the complaint. Talk of puka nacua antisemitism returned in March for that reason.
The puka nacua legal issues are civil for now. The Los Angeles City Attorney reviewed possible misdemeanor battery claims and routed the case to pre-filing diversion instead of filing charges. No criminal charges exist.
Puka Nacua Rehab: What Happened in April
On April 1, his attorney announced that Nacua had checked into a Los Angeles rehabilitation center voluntarily to improve his behavior in every aspect of life. The puka nacua rehab stint was not described in medical detail, so none is reported here.
He later spoke to reporters about the offseason puka nacua rehab period, and Rams general manager Les Snead said in August that he looked healthy and focused. The NFL has said only that the matter is under review. It did not clarify whether that covers the lawsuit, the puka nacua rehab entry or both.
Puka Nacua Potential NFL Suspension: Where Things Stand
The league can discipline a player without criminal charges. Here is the current picture:
- Puka Nacua suspension update: As of October 13, 2026, no suspension has been announced.
- Puka Nacua suspension news: He was not placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List before the season, and Tom Pelissero said that was never a serious option. On September 7, Schefter said there was a real possibility he would avoid discipline in 2026. By September 10, Nacua had begun the steps toward a diversion program.
- Puka Nacua suspension reason: There is none to list, because no suspension exists. The matter under review involves the lawsuit allegations.
- Puka Nacua suspension odds: No verified betting market was found, so no numbers are quoted here.
The puka nacua suspension question hinges on the personal conduct policy, which counts a diversionary program as a disposition of a criminal proceeding. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted that diversion is not a finding of innocence. In Nacua’s case, no charges or formal agreement exist, so it can be argued that discipline should wait until the program is complete.
So is puka nacua getting suspended this season? Not as of today, and the league has not closed its review. Any ruling would come from the NFL and NFLPA’s disciplinary officer, with appeals going to Commissioner Roger Goodell or his designee. Nacua said before the opener that he understood the consequences.
Fantasy Football Outlook
Puka Nacua fantasy value stays elite whenever he is active, and managers who spent a first-round pick on Puka Nacua have mostly been rewarded. ESPN notes he has finished sixth or better among receivers in points per game in each of his three pro seasons, and first last year. The Rams have thrown more than 50 passes in three straight games, which keeps his target floor high.
The last two weeks show the ceiling. In full-PPR scoring, his Week 5 line was worth about 38 puka nacua fantasy points, and Week 4 about 28. Those puka nacua stats came despite the groin issue. Davante Adams still handles red-zone work, scoring twice on Monday, so touchdown variance remains Nacua’s main risk. Week 6 brings a home game against the Cardinals.
Girlfriend, Baby and Dating Rumors
For years, his puka nacua girlfriend was Hallie Aiono, a media and fitness personality. She is now his puka nacua ex girlfriend, after a public breakup that included a paternity dispute in court filings. The puka nacua baby, a son, was born in October 2025.
There is no puka nacua wife in public reporting. That also means any puka nacua divorce talk has no basis.
The puka nacua sydney sweeney buzz began on January 30, 2026, when the actress described her ideal partner in a Cosmopolitan interview. Nacua replied on X with “Love skydiving.” At Super Bowl media week, he joked that he is afraid of heights. No relationship has been reported. His puka nacua twitter account, now called X, is @AsapPuka.
